Sun, sand and sea

Now is the time to relax in the sun and enjoy ‘A Seaside Adventure’. Marian Pena from Seams to Be Sew started this blog hop, and her sad passing earlier this year has made us all reflect on how important it is to live life now. We all can get a bit involved in work and family and obligations, but it’s really important to take that time to sit in the sun and soak in the total experience. So this blog hop is our chance to raise a glass to Marian and her prolonged and valued contribution to quilting across the world.

Beach umbrella 12 inch FPP block

Beach umbrella 12 inch FPP block

This block is a foundation paper pieced block. the only bit that is a bit tricky is the edge of the umbrella. I’ve made my edge in a slightly darker shade than the top of the umbrella so it gives the illusion of being at a different angle to the top of the umbrella. For the illusion to work, it needs to be pieced so each colour falls from the colour above it. My thought was that if that didn’t work out, I could always sew a tiny piece of fringing around the edge!

It would be fun to add a beach bag under the umbrella, or add a boat to the sea, or pick a sea print with whales or even a shark… perhaps not. this is my fourth FPP beach block and they are all available as digital downloads on my pattern store.

For the month of October I’m trying to raise enough money to purchase some maths resources for some refugees I teach in Indonesia. ( I know, learning how to add fractions with different denominators is not exactly relaxing in the sun, but visa applicants need to have passed their GED certificate which means sitting a test in maths in another language. This is something I’m very grateful I don’t have to do for myself). I’m trying to get my class a subscription to IXL as it will make the online teaching much easier and more productive. So far, I’m only part of the way there. If you would like to purchase any of my other FPP patterns, half of what I earn will go to buying an IXL subscription for my class.

Angel’s Beach Quilt single bed size

Angel’s Beach Quilt single bed size

Angel’s Beach is a pattern designed as a skill builder and it covers a lot of techniques from basic log cabin to mock hand applique to foundation piecing, curves, y seams, walking foot quilting, QAYG, fmq and ruler quilting. As a result its a pretty big pattern, but its very comprehensive. I designed it to be a teach yourself stand alone quilting course, and i made accompanying videos as well. So it really is good value for money. It is a pattern I teach and it always looks great.
